Historical Memory in Greece, 1821–1930. Performing the Past in the Present
By  Christina Koulouri
This book presents a social and cultural history of collective memory in modern Greece during the first century of state independence, contributing to the debate over the relationship between memory and identity.
It discusses how modern Greek society commemorated its distant and recent pasts, both real and imagined, namely antiquity, Byzantium, the Greek Revolution and the Asia Minor Catastrophe; how cultural memory was shaped by the various war experiences (victory, defeat, mass death and mourning, refugeedom); and how memory politics became arenas of social and political strife. Historical painting, monuments, historical pageantry, tableaux vivants, national anniversaries, performances of ancient drama and revivals of ancient games are analyzed as instances where the past was visualized, represented, performed and "consumed".
An explosion in public history has taken place over the last decades around the world, with a veritable flood of commemorations, anniversaries and "memory wars". As more and more social groups claim the "right to remember", public discourse and polemics have arisen at the same time that traumatic memory has become a field of international academic research. In the arena of public history, historical memory is being constructed through the sentimental, irrational reception of mythological narratives told through images.

The Evolution of the Political, Social and Economic Life of Cyprus, 1191-1950 (Palgrave Studies in Economic History)
The book examines the evolution of the political, social and economic life of Cyprus from its conquest by Richard the Lionheart to the 1950 referendum on Enosis. Even with such a long period, around 900 years, the interest in controlling the island becomes clear given its particularly advantageous geographical position between Europe, Africa and Asia. Undoubtedly, Cyprus has always been an important centre for military and economic activity in the wider region. This book provides an interdisciplinary approach which combines history, political science, sociology, international relations and economics. It will be of interest to academics in Economic History, Middle-Eastern Studies, Mediterranean Studies and researchers in general, as well as anyone interested in political theory and the role of the state in particular.

The Depoliticisation of Greece’s Public Revenue Administration
Radical Change and the Limits of Conditionality
(2020)
This book analyses the reform of Greece’s public revenue administration promoted by its international lenders under the successive bailout agreements put in place since 2010. In particular, it shows how an integral part of the finance ministry was converted into an independent agency operating largely outside the direct control of the finance minister. The authors focus on the implementation of this major reform and demonstrate the impact of domestic decisions on the increasing specificity of the international lenders’ demands and the concomitant lack of confidence in the Greek political élite’s commitment to the reform package. This book helps readers understand the response to the eurozone crisis (especially, the conditionality of funding), Greece’s reform capacity with a focus on its tax administration, and the expansion of the scope of non-majoritarian institutions in Western democracies.

Spectral Theory of Value and Actual Economies
 Controllability, Effective Demand, and Cycles
Authors: Theodore Mariolis, Nikolaos Rodousakis, George Soklis
Publisher: Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2021
This book develops a unified treatment of the income distribution–capital–value problems with respect to actual economies, and then gradually turns to the issues of effective demand and capitalist accumulation fluctuations from both political economy and economic policy perspectives. That treatment, on the one hand, places produced means of production, positive profits, and capital accumulation at the centre of the analysis and, on the other hand, is analytically based on the modern control theory. Hence, the authors’ investigation is concerned with input–output representations of actual single and joint production, heterogeneous labour, and open economies; zeroes in on the characteristic value distributions of the system matrices; and, finally, derives meaningful theoretical results consistent with the empirical evidence, and vice versa. The main topics addressed are the uncontrollable/unobservable aspects of the real-world economies, the powerful low-order spectral approximations and reconstructions of the inter-industry structure of production–value–distributive variables relationships, the critical-constructive appraisal of both “mainstream” and “radical” theories of value, the matrix demand multipliers and demand-switching policies in heterogeneous capital worlds, and the circular inter-actions amongst income distribution, effective demand, accumulation, and technical conditions of production. Written on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the publication of both Piero Sraffa’s “Production of Commodities by Means of Commodities” and Rudolf E. Kalman’s paper “On the general theory of control systems”, this book provides a consistent and comprehensive framework for theoretical, empirical, and economic policy research.

Α Radical Policy for Combating Unemployment. The Future Network: Autonomous Workers, Stock Holders, Consumers and the State, Papazissis Publishers, 2020.

The book describes a proposal for a new policy on combating unemployment. The full concept includes an innovative “entrepreneurial” activity, but without any business involvement of capital holders and, therefore, any risk. The state regulates the crucial issues, with the necessary institutions. There is a combination of funding: a major part of funding is private. The public co-financing is significant but minimal and partly returnable. The local authorities coordinate the procedure. All economic actors are active in this process. The un-employed persons work as autonomous workers. This policy includes the initial financing by the holders of capital (common deposit accounts are created within the commercial banks at a special interest rate). The citizens, as consumers of the offered services by the beneficiaries, participate to the financing of the program. Special securities are created for the payment of beneficiaries (from the pool of unemployed persons). The beneficiaries’ remuneration is absolutely included in the securities. The securities include the contribution to the social security system and the relative tax. The function of the policy creates dividends by its yields, for the beneficiaries and the stock holders. The implementation of this radical policy does not have any of the problems of the previous models of intervention. Unemployment could be an issue of the past for our civilisation.

Dealing with Disasters, Perspectives from Eco-Cosmologies(2021)
Editors: Riboli, D., Stewart, P.J., Strathern, A.J., Torri, D. (Eds.)ΕΚΔΟΣΕΙΣ PALGRAVE MACMILLAN
Providing a fresh look at some of the pressing issues of our world today, this collection focuses on experiential and ritualized coping practices in response to a multitude of environmental challenges—cyclones, volcanic eruptions, tsunamis, earthquakes, warfare and displacements of peoples and environmental resource exploitation. Eco-cosmological practices conducted by skilled healing practitioners utilize knowledge embedded in the cosmological grounding of place and experiences of place and the landscapes in which such experience is encapsulated. A range of geographic case studies are presented in this volume, exploring Asia, Europe, the Pacific, and South America. With special reference throughout to ritual as a mode of seeking the stabilization, renewal, and continuity of life processes, this volume will be of particular interest to readers working in shamanic and healing practices, environmental concerns surrounding sustainability and conservation, ethnomedical systems, and religious and ritual studies.
