Πανεπιστημίου τοu Salzburg για έξι θέσεις διδακτορικών φοιτητών:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Salzburg Centre of European Union Studies (SCEUS) was
established in 2005 as an interdisciplinarycentre at the University
of Salzburg. Research and teaching at the Centre focus on the
dynamics of European integration as an ongoing process of
deepening and widening, thus on institutionaldevelopments,
decision-making and policy outcomes in the European Union.
Since 2008, SCEUS has run a doctoral college, comprising
doctoral students from various countriesand disciplines.
In the framework of this doctoral college the Centre is
now looking for newcandidates for doctoral student
positions for the period of October 2011-September 2014.
By contributingwith their research to the thematic areas
on institutional design, EU constitutional law,European
culture and society, economic policy making and regulation,
globalisation, Europeanintegration and the welfare state
and the relations of the European Union with the wider
world, thedoctoral students will analyse the "Boundaries
of Europe". Research students selected by the Admissions
Committee will be eligible for a three-year scholarship
(non-refundable) at conditions as established by the Austrian
fund for science and research. The Doctorate of the University
of Salzburg is conferred on students who have completed
one of the doctoral studies programmes (Law or Social Sciences),
in the form of either a Ph.D. (in social sciences such as political
science, history, sociology etc.) or a J. D. (Doctor iuris).
Against this background the SCEUS is looking for 6 doctoral students:
1. GZ A 0032/1-2011 A doctoral student with a research focus on the EU's relations
with the wider world, in particularon "the role of societal interests
in the EU's trade policy-making process" (groups trying to influence
the EU's policy making process, strategies, influence)
Specific Requirements:
* Master's degree in Law or Social Sciences (in particular
Economics, Political Science, History, Sociology, etc.).
* Good skills in social science methods
2. GZ A 0033/1-2011 A doctoral with a research focus on the topic of
"Social market rules, European integration
and the welfare state"
Specific requirements:
* Master's degree preferably in Law or Economics
or Political Science, alternatively also in other fields
of Social Sciences.
3. GZ A 0035/1-2011 A doctoral student with a research focus on
"Redistribution and Inequality in times of
Globalization"
Specific requirements:
* Master's degree in Social Sciences
(in particular Economics or Political Science).
4. GZ A 0036/1-2011 A doctoral student with a research focus on
the topic of "Euroscepticism in Central and
Eastern European countries (CEE)".
Specific requirements:
* Master's degree in Law or Social Sciences
(in particular Economics, Political Science,
History, Sociology, etc.).
* Knowledge of an East European language
is an advantage, as it is familiarity with the
historical, cultural, political and economic context
of the region
* Methodological skills, especially in statistics and
interview techniques
5. GZ A 0034/1-2011 A doctoral student with a research focus on
"Public Private Partnerships in the European Union".
Specific requirements:
* Master's degree in Social Sciences
(in particular Economics or Political Science).
6. GZ A 0037/1-2011 A doctoral student in the area of sociology,
social psychology or socio-economy.
Specific requirements:
* Master's degree in Social Sciences (in particular sociology)
* Very good skills in quantitative methods
General requirements for all applicants:
* A Master's degree which has to be completed
by no later than 30 September 2011.
* Nationality is not a criterion, internationality an asset.
* Fluency in English
* willingness to engage in further method training
Application and selection process: Candidates are invited to
submit their written application no later than 15 March, 2011.
Short-listed candidates will be invited for an interview by the beginning
of April 2011.
The application should encompass:
* CV
* Proposal for a dissertation project on one of the topics
outlined above (3 pages - focusing on research question, methods,
interdisciplinary aspects and innovative aspects
and relevance for the scientific field
* Portfolio of 1-3 of the applicant`s best seminar
papers (preferably on issues related to European integration)
* Letter of motivation
* if already available: a copy of the applicant`s
master`s degree
* Grade report (i.e., an official document showing all
the courses and exams the applicant has taken at
his/her university)
* 2 letters of reference, to be submitted directly
by referee to the address mentioned below
Documents can be submitted in English or German,
the letter of motivation in English only.

than 15 March, 2011 by regular postal service to
